Let's talk about the free hotel stay, because "free" is a word that gets abused in marketing, and you deserve the straight version.
What it is. When you donate a vehicle through DonateACar.io, you're eligible for a hotel stay where the room rate is covered. Pick a destination, book through the program, sleep in a real hotel bed. It's a genuine thank-you — most donors never get anything back for giving, and we think the gesture matters.
What it isn't. It is not a free trip. We say "free hotel stay" on purpose, every time, because "free trip" would imply flights, food, and everything else — and that's not what's offered. Anyone who tells you a car donation comes with a free vacation is selling you something.
The honest terms, all of them:
- Room rate only. The nightly room charge is covered. You pay taxes, fees, resort charges, parking, food, and everything else.
- Activate within 7 days of your donation being completed.
- Travel within 18 months of activation.
- 21+ to book.
- One per household per 12 months. Donate three cars, you get one stay.
- Availability depends on the hotel and dates you choose — it's a real booking system, not a blank check.
A note on how booking works. After your donation is complete, you receive instructions to activate the stay within 7 days. You then browse available hotels and dates through the program's booking system and reserve within your 18-month travel window. Blackout dates apply at some properties, as with most hotel programs — booking a few weeks out gives you the most choice. The process is deliberately simple: no presentations to attend, no timeshare tour, no upsell. If anyone ever asks you to sit through a sales pitch to claim a donor hotel stay, walk away — that isn't us and it isn't legitimate.
Why we do it. Two reasons. First, gratitude: donating a car takes trust, and trust deserves a thank-you with weight. Second, honesty in the industry: vehicle donation has a reputation problem — vague promises, mystery middlemen. We'd rather over-explain the terms upfront than surprise you later. If the terms above don't work for you, that's fine — the commissary grants your donation funds don't depend on the hotel stay at all.
